Key considerations
Size
The right size for your height is the best stability ball for you. When you buy a too big ball, you may have trouble staying on it and might end up hurting yourself. When you buy a stability ball that is too low, you will not be able to perform your exercises properly and you may end up in a painful situation.
In most situations, the choice of a stability ball has at least four diameter options: 45 centimeters (cm), 55 cm, 65 cm, and 75 cm. Each person has slightly different dimensions, so the size charts can vary by one inch from manufacturer to manufacturer, but the size guidelines are generally fairly consistent:
45 cm is perfect for individuals shorter than 5.0’.
55 cm is perfect for the individuals between 5’1” and 5’7″.
65 cm is perfect for the individuals between 5’8″ and 6’2″.
75 cm is perfect for the individuals over 6’3″.
Sitting on the stability ball with your knees bent at an angle of 90° is the way to test for a proper fit. The ball is the right size for you if your feet rest comfortably on the floor.
Stability ball features
Once you determine which size stability ball is better for you, there are a few other considerations that can boost your equipment use.
Durability:
The best stability balls are designed to prevent them from bursting like a balloon if they suffer a puncture or tear that would drop you to the ground with a jolt. Rather, a punctured anti-burst stability ball leaks air more gradually to allow you more time to react and reduce the chance of injury.
Weight capacity:
Most stability balls accommodate a total of between 250 and 300 pounds. If that’s not enough for you, look for a stability heavy-duty ball that can meet your needs.
Surface:
It is highly desirable to have a stability ball with a textured surface avoiding slipping. This will not only help prevent the ball from slipping across the floor but will also help prevent you from falling off the pitch.
Materials:
You want to produce your stability ball using durable, non-toxic materials that can withstand daily use. Firstly, many stability balls have a rubbery odor, but it should disappear. If you’re having a problem with scent, you can check for low-odor stability balls.
Pump:
All stability balls come with an inflating device of some kind. Most of them have a small handheld pump while others have a foot pump. The best thing for you is just a matter of preference, but most of them come with a handheld pump.
Colour:
If you’re going to use your stability ball in a gym or other public facility, choose a distinct color so it’s easy to tell from everybody else. If you use your stability ball in your home’s privacy, choose your favorite color, which is enjoyable and motivates you.
Instructions:
Most stability balls come with a convenient starting exercise sheet or booklet. If yours isn’t, there are plenty of videos online that can help you get started. You may also be able to prescribe such specific exercises for your doctor or physical therapist.
